What Is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy?
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, or HBOT, involves breathing 100% oxygen inside a pressurized chamber. The increased pressure allows your blood to carry significantly more oxygen than it normally would — oxygen that gets delivered directly to tissues that are struggling to heal, including chronic diabetic wounds.
How HBOT Helps Diabetic Wounds Heal
- Increases oxygen delivery to tissue with poor circulation
- Helps fight certain types of infection
- Stimulates the growth of new blood vessels around the wound
- Supports the body’s natural healing processes for chronic, non-healing wounds
Who Is a Candidate?
HBOT is typically considered for diabetic foot wounds that haven’t responded to standard wound care after a defined period, especially when there’s an element of poor circulation involved. Not every wound requires HBOT — our team evaluates each case individually as part of your overall treatment plan.
What to Expect During Treatment
Sessions typically last about 90 minutes and are done in a series over several weeks. Patients are able to relax, rest, or even watch a show inside the chamber, and most tolerate treatment very well.
Seamlessly Integrated at HOPE Amputation Prevention Center
Unlike many wound centers that require a separate referral for hyperbaric treatment, HOPE Amputation Prevention Center’s HBOT services are integrated directly into our coordinated care model — meaning your vascular, podiatric, wound care, and hyperbaric treatment all happen as part of one connected plan.
